[Log 002: Video]
[Faize is in what appears to be a library, a small stack of books to his left and his Elgyem sitting on the table to his right. Said Elgyem has the look of somebody who's been giving an explanation that fell on deaf ears for a decent length of time. Which is basically exactly what happened in a non-verbal sense. Poor thing.]
[Faize, on the other hand, looks considerably less irritable than he did the last time he appeared on the network. This world still bothers him, but last month's trip to Nightmare Castle was enough to get him to start giving this world and the things it has to offer a try. And he's actually come to find that some of it is rather fascinating.]
[It's the green eggs and ham effect.]
It would seem that, thusfar, humans have been unable to translate Elgyem's communicative patterns. Which is understandable, translation is a rather difficult and complicated process, especially with the level of technology this world has at its disposal and given the fact that Elgyem communicates non-verbally. [He waves a hand somewhat dismissively.] But no matter, it gives me something to work towards, I suppose.
However, this does not help me in figuring out what my Elgyem's name is. He can communicate with me psychically, but seems to only be able to do so with pictures, which is little better than patterns of blinking lights in this case. Somehow it seems strange to just call him "Elgyem" when that's the name of his entire species.
[The Elgyem in question just puts his face in his hands. Master, plz. Why is this so hard. He appreciates the thought, he really does, but he doesn't have a name. He just wants you to give him a name, like he's been trying to tell you in a variety of ways for the past several hours.]
So I guess, put simply, my question is this: how did you go about learning the names of your Pokémon?

My initial thought was to give him a traditional Eldarian name, but it was suggested to me that I look to his strengths and personality instead. I'm now considering something to do with the stars, since he seems to have a fondness for them. A name originating from the Earth Zodiac was suggested but I am not sure what I think of that concept as a whole...
text;
i mean those signs have a particular significance to my people as well but it is rather different than what the earthlings put to them
what are some traditional eldarian names if you dont mind my asking?
text;
Well I suppose it's not so much the names themselves as how many names we have compared to other cultures I've encountered so far. Perhaps I should have worded it better. It's not uncommon for Eldarians to have names consisting of many parts. For example, our supreme commander has 76 names in addition to his 23 titles.
There is some overlap with Earthlings in names themselves though. Apparently Rose is a name within both our cultures. I've yet to meet anyone else here who shares a name with any of my friends, however.

my ancestors symbol was the one known as aries :)
i see
that is rather a lot of names!!
introductions to him must take a very long time :o
i suppose my culture also has a strange naming system though
text;
Well most of us only go by our first name. And those with very long names rarely ever use their full names during introductions, save for when formality calls for it. Supreme Commander Gaghan typically just...goes by that. Otherwise, yes, it would take quite a long time just to get past greetings, let alone carry on a conversation!
What naming system might that be?
text;
its in an entirely different universe :)
oh here let me give you a few of my friends names and see if you can spot it yourself :p
karkat vantas
aradia megido
tavros nitram
sollux captor
nepeta leijon
kanaya maryam
terezi pyrope
vriska serket
equius zahhak
gamzee makara
eridan ampora
feferi peixes
text;
I think I might see the system. Unless the 6 letters x 2 names pattern there is just a coincidence.
text;
only in the humans universe
in ours they just have to do with our ancestors
:p nope you caught it!!
congratulations
text;
Is there a reason for this pattern? Or is that just how things are on Alternia?
text;
i think our creating their universe probably has something to do with it honestly
it is kind of how things are!
for the most part
some actors dont have names like that
